The first of three free BrooklynVegan SXSW day parties at Cheer Up Charlies in Austin went down yesterday (3/17). 15 bands took over the venue's indoor and outdoor stages from noon to 6 pm, with a punk show outside and a more eclectic bill inside. Here's pictures and a recap of the whole day.

Our free SXSW day party on March 19 at Cheer Up Charlies includes Protomartyr, Into It. Over It., Julien Baker, Mothers, Margo Price, Car Seat Headrest, Fear of Men & many more.

You already heard "Hurtin' (On The Bottle)," a rollicking song (but not without some underlying sadness) that sounded like a refreshing update on mid-'60s country. "Hands of Time," the six-minute album opener, shows another side of her. A good country singer is usually a good storyteller, and Margo proves on this song that she absolutely is.

Our free SXSW day party on March 18 at Cheer Up Charlies includes the genre-defying Cocorosie, the prolific Kevin Morby, R&B trio KING, eccentric pop duo Prince Rama, indie rockers Pinegrove, feminist punks Tacocat, the new ex-Smith Westerns band Whitney, and many more.
