Follow That Bird @ Scoot Inn on 1/12
"Follow That Bird follows up their Wooden Bones 7" from last summer with something a bit more substantial. Word is they're recording their debut album (finally) with Conrad Keely of ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. This comes on the heels of a national tour with Trail of Dead, so things (finally) seem to be looking up for the perennial "next big Austin band" band." [Austinist]
Follow that Bird headlined a benefit for Esme Barrera at Scoot Inn on 1/12. Eight bands total played to a full room, and donations were taken at the door to help Esme's family. The bands were:

Kingdom of Suicide Lovers
Foreign Mothers
The Dead Space
Love Collector
Follow That Bird
The audeince was full of friends and supporters of Esme. Some spotted included members of The French Inhales, Smithers, Ume (who are donating proceeds from their single 'Gleam'), and John Wesley Coleman.
Upcoming benefits for Esme include day and night shows at Beerland on 1/28.
As far as the actual case, kxan reports:
Acevedo said officers are still following up on leads in the murder of Esme Barrera and attacks of two other women that might be related.
"Hopefully there are some leads and some progress with the investigation," said Harry Chou.
Hopefully they have more info than they're letting on.
I was only able to make the second half of the show at Scoot Inn - in time to see the last four bands. More pictures of the second half of the show below...
