Our Heart Aches For Syria Benefit @ Long Center - 3/15/2013
One of the many SXSW events BrooklynVegan had some part in this year, and the most random one, was the "Our Heart Aches For Syria" benefit at the Long Center on the Friday night of SXSW Music. Taking place near and after the Flaming Lips show at Auditorium Shores, locals The Young opened the Omar Souleyman-headlined night to an awkwardly small amount of people in an awkwardly large venue. More people eventually showed, though let's face it, this show should have been at a packed, rowdy 500 capacity space near 6th Street instead of inside a 2500 person theater off the beaten path (those who first conceived this event anticipated a bigger lineup with a bigger sponsor). That said, it was still a great lineup and a fun night, and it was Deradoorian's exclusive SXSW show, and possibly Deer Tick's only SXSW show, and a nice amount of money was raised for those in need.
