"Thirty years on, UK art punks Psychic TV are more all together now than yesterday.
"The music that we are going to be playing has all been done in one take," explains Genesis P-Orridge, Psychic TV founder/front-pandrogyne. "No rehearsals, no overdubs, and me inventing the lyrics as we went along. It's been an experiment in creating these long, lyrical, yet very powerful songs that last 20 minutes or more."
From pioneering industrial soundclash via Throbbing Gristle to studying magic with William Burroughs, P-Orridge continues to cheerfully obliterate the constrictions between life, art, and spirituality. This is the pandrogyne, after all, who literally melded his physical being to his late, beloved Lady Jaye Breyer. At 61, s/he remains the idealistic futurist's go-to shaman, but no thanks to persistent health issues, rumor has it that this may be PTV's final go-round.
"We've just decided not to do any more [lengthy] tours," s/he says. "We'll cherry-pick, and Austin is one of the cherries. We're really taken with the atmosphere, the audiences, the GBLT community. We've always thought it would be really great if we could have Austin as a second PTV headquarters." [Austin Chronicle]
Psychic TV played Elysium in Austin Friday night (12/9), one of only three shows that Genesis P-Orridge scheduled for the group in the USA in December. More pictures from that Texas show below...
