Austin Fashion Week is underway; Shakey Graves played Joie de Vie (pics)
Shakey Graves and Models @ Joie de Vie - 8/11/2012
Austin Fashion Week kicked-off last week on 8/10 and goes through 8/18. On 8/11 Shakey Graves performed at the JOIE DE VINTAGE Runway and Fashion Showcase and I got to catch the show before heading over to Aesop Rock at the Mohawk - and it's not clear which was the hotter of the two (temperature-wise), as both left their audiences melted and drenched.
I walked away from Joie de Vie Salon on Saturday night thirsting for a pool to jump into. It was one of those Austin summer nights (about 100 degrees outside, and dare I say even hotter inside Joie de Vie?) The venue was packed and everyone was sweating with anticipation to see the collaboration amongst Electric Frenchie, Bloomers, Shari Gerstenberger of Charm School Vintage, and Erika Pinktipps. Shari and Erika have recently curated a special vintage collection for Electric Frenchie called "Time Capsule." The Time Capsule collection accessorized with flowers by Bloomers was the palette for stylist Jenny Woys to play with...
Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia) opened the show. Despite the heat and frequent wipedowns, he played quite the energetic set (which is no small feat since he performs not only the vocals and guitar, but also all of the percussion using his feet on a custom pedal-equipped suitcase-drum). His talents don't end there - he is also an actor, as a quick visit to IMDB shows. Friday Night Lights, Dallas, Spy Kids 3-D (!), and many other projects are included in his credits.
You can catch Shakey Graves at his residency all this month at The Parish, with 2 more performances coming up on Wednesday 8/15 and 8/22. He's also on the bill for the Mother Falcon Back To School Party at The Parish on 8/24 (with Mother Falcon and Les RAV).
