Ho99o9 got shut down two songs into their set IHeartComix SXSW Showcase (pics, video), touring this spring

The official IHeartComix SXSW showcase happened Wednesday night (3/15) at Clearport with performances including Frankie Rose, Sadie Dupuis’ Sad13 solo project, and a midnight set from New Jersey rap/hardcore act Ho99o9 whose intense set instantly sparked a mosh pit. Too intense, apparently: their set was cut short — just two songs into it — and they shut down the club. There’s video from the show (the footage doesn’t look that wild to us) below and pictures from their set, including the two previous acts (Sad13 and Pomo) in the gallery above.

NPR caught Ho99o9 on Thursday night at SXSW which was just as intense but went off without a hitch:

With a live drummer, grinding electronics and the intense screamo co-vocals of Eaddy and theOGM, the trio conjured Bad Brains, Big Black, Rob Zombie and Black Flag. Ho99o9’s set was revelatory. Flailing across the stage and into the pit, the singers exuded complete control of their noise and vision. Just when you thought they couldn’t expend any more energy, Eaddy ended the set with a back flip — an expression of the musical liberation they’d achieved.

If you’re in Austin, you can still catch Ho99o9 tonight at the official Warp Magazine showcase at Blackheart (1 AM) and then Saturday (3/18) at the SXSW Discovery Stage (2 PM, badges only).

Ho99o9 will be on tour later this spring. All tour dates are listed below.
