On Friday, the band played as its side project, Foxboro Hot Tubs, to a few hundred people at Brazos Hall. It wasn’t a secret Green Day show, and they avoided playing any Green Day songs, but it was still a blast.

Dressed in a dark suit and a carnation-garnished top hat, Billie Joe Armstrong poured PBRs on the crowd, blew off confetti cannons, sprayed silly string and even crowd-surfed during the wild set.

“I wanna see everyone in this f***ing room move right now,” Armstrong shouted in the middle of “Pieces of Truth.”

And that’s the thing with Foxboro Hot Tubs: It’s basically Green Day’s excuse to have fun, screw around, play clubs and generally do things they wouldn’t normally be able to do in an arena such as empty hundreds of balloons into the crowd.

Even Cole Becker of Emily’s Army and the members of Pins, the two bands that opened the show, got in on the crowd surfing. [Rock Candy]
