Austin's annual Free Week will actually be 10 days this year, with free shows happening every night at Mohawk, The Sidewinder, and The New Movement from January 1 - 10. This year's lineup, featuring mostly Austin bands, has been announced and includes Ringo Deathstarr, Sweet Spirit, Matthew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit), Surfer Blood, Spray Paint, Residual Kid, Indian Jewelry, Leftover Crack, American Sharks, Golden Dawn Arkestra, and lots lots more. There will also be comedy events this year.

In case you missed it, Merge Records announced this exciting news in October: We are excited to welcome Austin's A Giant Dog to Merge Records! The band recently recorded their third album with prolific producer Mike McCarthy and will release it in early 2016.

Lionel Richie brought his "All Night Long" tour to Austin (again) last month for a show an ACL Live at Moody Theatre on October 24. From opener "Running With the Night" on, it was a non-stop hitfest with both solo songs and Commodores classics, finally encoring with USA for Africa charity single "We Are the World." That included, of course, his 1984 #1 worldwide smash "Hello," which has been getting a revived interest of late because of Adele's "Hello" (which is currently the #1 single in America). Of that he recently told Dujour:
Even though she didn't cover the song, but the word 'hello' automatically everyone called me on the phone and said she used "hello," and I said well I kind of own "Hello," haha. But not to the point where it's any kind of a problem. I'll loan hello to Adele.
